2019 Unit Charter Renewal

Recharter Time

It’s that time of year again. Kids are back in school and we just wrapped up School Night for Scouting! Now it is time for every unit to begin their Unit Charter Renewal process.

Information on the process was provided to unit leaders at the August District Program Kickoff meetings.

Here are some key points:

  • Any leaders who are not CURRENT Youth Protection Trained by September 30, are automatically dropped off your roster by national. They will need a new adult leader application, and be current in YPT to get back on your unit roster.
  • Unit Charter Renewal packets will be distributed to unit leaders at the October Roundtable meeting.
  • On-line Unit Charter Renewal will open up on October 5.
  • All units will also receive in their packet this year a printed copy of their Charter Renewal paperwork. This provides units who wish to make changes on paper first, to do so; and we will accept these “hard copies” as your Charter Renewal, too. These charters will still need all the same signatures. New members will need applications attached.
  • Charter Renewal Training should be taking place at your October Roundtable meeting.
  • Your district will provide to you your charter turn-in date, time and location for November. Two Charter Renewal power point presentations are located on the Northern Star Scouting web site to help unit leaders with this process.
  • The Fall University of Scouting will have a class to train unit leaders in charter renewal, and another class to “help” units with issues. This class will have one of our council registrars present to help overcome any problems you may be having.
  • Units striving for Journey 2.0 Platinum of Gold MUST have their Charter Renewal turned in, free of mistakes, before November 30.
  • Units striving to achieve Journey 2.0 Silver or Bronze MUST have their charter turned in, free of mistakes, before December 30.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding your Unit Charter Renewal, please contact your Unit Commissioner or your Program Relations Executive.
