Forkhorn at Kiwanis
Learn more about the outdoors
Camp at Kiwanis Scout Camp. Once again we are proud to announce that
Northern Star Council, in collaboration with the Minnesota Deer Hunters
Association, will host two sessions of Forkhorn Camp at Kiwanis this
summer. What is Forkhorn Camp? Good question! It is a program for all
youth, boys and girls, from 11-18 to learn more about the outdoors and
how to enjoy them, as well as safely use firearms or archery tackle for
the hunting of wild game.
More information can be found at this link: http://mndeerhunters.com/education/fork-horn-camp/
At Kiwanis we will host a Forkhorn 1, which is a firearms focus,
including the earning of MN Firearms Safety Certificate, deer biology,
hunter ethics and intro to archery. All of the traditional camp
activities are included too, swimming, canoeing, fishing, rock
climbing, hiking, overnight experience, and much more! Dates for
Kiwanis FH 1 are July 16th- 21.
Forkhorn 2 at Kiwanis this year will be July 30th- August 4th. FH 2 has
an archery focus, including earning MN Advanced Bow Hunter Education,
following a blood trail, survival skills and deer camp basics, and
includes all those fun summer camp activities also. It also has an
advanced shooters component, aimed at improving one’s skill with shot
placement and accuracy. FH 2 participants must be 12 years old when
camp starts and already have MN Firearms Safety completed.
More details can be found, as well as a registration form at the above
website link. Fill out your application and return it directly to Camp,
if you have further questions they can be answered by the Camp Director
at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling the Camp at 651-433-2801.
Now here is the best part. Forkhorn Camp normally costs $400, but for a
limited time, (April 30th deadline), registered members of Northern
Star Council can receive a $200 discount if they are signed up and paid
by the deadline. Minnesota Deer Hunter Association members can apply
for a scholarship of up to $300 from their local MDHA Chapter, but only
one of the two opportunities for savings can be used per participant.
Act now, class size is limited to 24 participants per session!
