Innovation Program and Grants
Dollars available for ideas to strengthen Scouting
Have an innovative idea to make Scouting better, but need money to get it off the ground?
The Council Innovation Fund is our unique way to support new
ideas that improve local Scouting. Grants totalling $50,000 a year are
distributed to units, districts, council committees, and even
individuals for ideas that bring Scouting to a new level.
How to apply
To apply for a grant you must
- Complete an application
- Secure a staff member champion for the project
- Present your proposal to our
Council Innovation Committee. The committee meets bimonthly to review
Recommended ideas go to our Council
Board of Directors for final approval.
Grants have ranged from $300-$50,000 funding a range
of projects including our Lion Cub program to expand Scouting to
kindergartners, a space camp pilot/NASA space station downlink day,
online camp planning enhancements, Islamic outreach staff and
materials, and development of a leadership assessment tool.

Is my idea innovative?
Our committee defines innovation as: the implementation of ideas
that create positive, significant change for Scouting within Northern
Star Council. They place special emphasis on projects that further our
Council strategic plan. If you have an idea, the committee would
love to hear from you.
