Underwater Basket Weaving

Square Lake, at Golden Acres.

Scuba Crew 820 hosted its Fifth annual underwater BASKET WEAVING EVENT at Square Lake, just north of Stillwater Minnesota. The 68 degree day felt cold after weaving baskets on a dive platform 22 feet below the water surface for 45 minutes. The water temperature at 22 feet was a perfect 72 degrees, but with 6 foot of visibility, taking pictures underwater was more difficult. 6 youth Venture Scouts and 6 adults participated this year, coming from St. Michaels, Wyoming, Red Wing, Rosemount, Elko, Eagan, and Shoreview.

How'd they Do It?

Scouts measured and cut pieces according to Basket Kit directions. Pre-assemble base prior to diving.

Scouts start weaving the sides while kneeling on a dive platform at 22 feet below the water surface. Sides going together well in water temperatures of 72 degrees. In just 30 to 45 minutes underwater the sides are completed.
