Why Should I Become a Trained Cub Scout Leader
Fall is a busy time for all of Scouting. With the influx of new
Cub Scouts and volunteers following a successful School Night for
Scouting, this is an opportune time to make sure all new Cub leaders
are properly trained. All volunteers in the BSA are required to
take Youth Protection Training and area also expected to take Position Specific Training. Success
comes by doing a lot of little things right. Keeping our
promise to youth that their participation in Scouting will be safe,
engaging and fun is the primary role for all Scouting volunteers.
Training is the first step in making sure that promise is kept.
- Youth Protection Training (Required for Registration with BSA) - Informs the new leader of the BSA
policies that are in place making Scouting one of the safest places for
youth in our communities.
- Position Specific Training - Teaches the best practices of
successful leaders and provides the resources necessary for volunteers
to successfully carry out their role as an adult leader in their

Trained leaders are better prepared, provide a better program to the
youth, and spend significantly less time planning their meetings and
looking for resources. All Cub Scout leader trainings can be taken
online at your own pace at https://my.scouting.org or at one of several
in-person trainings held throughout the council. Additional

provide the basic skills and tools for you to be successful as a Cub

University of Scouting (UOS) is held twice annually and is the best
place to address all of your training needs. The Fall UOS will be
held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at St. Paul College from 8:00 AM to
4:00 PM. Parking is free and the event includes lunch! From Position Specific and Youth Protection Trainings to
running efficient Den Meetings and Pack Meeting Pizzaz, the University
of Scouting is your "One Stop Shop" for all Cub Scout Leader Training!
There is an extensive course catalog for you to choose classes from
making it a customized day of training and learning.
